Grants and Planning Permission

Grants
As the Reconnect grant fund closed for applications on 31st March 2008, at present there are no grants available for solar PV installation in the North or in the Republic of Ireland.  Please keep checking this section or sign up to our newsletter to get updates on this topic.

Planning Permission

At present, planning permission is not required for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels under normal circumstances. There are a few exceptions. These occur when the building is:

  • Listed
  • In a conservation area
  • In open countryside or an area of outstanding natural beauty
  • Has had design restrictions placed on it

These are rare exceptions but they must be investigated before installation occurs as retrospective planning permission can be time consuming and expensive, and can lead to the panels being removed at the owner’s cost.
